Tempe, AZ Family Photographer: The Benefits of Doing a Mini Session

Fall is upon us and this is the most popular season for photographers to offer mini sessions. The weather is cooling here in the desert and fall skies offer a mix of moody clouds as well as beautiful golden hour sunsets. But maybe you’re not convinced yet that you even need family photos. Today I’m going to share with you 4 reasons that you need to book your mini session right NOW!

#1 Short & Sweet

It’s kind of in the name isn’t it? These sessions typically run anywhere between 10 minutes to 30 minutes. My own full family photo sessions run an hour long, however, my mini sessions are much shorter. Fall Mini Sessions are 30 minutes long, while my Christmas Minis are 20 minutes long. For those of you who want family photos but worry about an hour long session with your kiddos then mini sessions are FOR YOU!

#2 Price

I get it, family photos can be expensive. These days it’s hard to even pay for essentials for your family. So maybe you want that hour long photo session with your family but it’s just not something you can swing right now. Well, mini sessions are a great way to document your family’s legacy for a fraction of the price. Mini sessions are by nature cheaper than the longer, more time consuming full family sessions. You can also ask for a mini session as your Birthday gift or Christmas gift.

#3 Urgency

Most photographers offer mini sessions around seasons or holidays; think Christmas, Mother’s Day, Fall, Springtime. These events or seasons are fleeting and time sensitive. You want a picture for your holiday card to send out to friends and family, you only have a small window before the time to order and mail them all out is gone. Mini sessions does require you to think about something sooner rather than later. With a regular full length session you have time to plan maybe a little further out but a photographer’s mini session window is only open for a short time.

#4 Emotion

Some of you may think that mini sessions are just canned and cookie cutter poses lacking the emotion of it’s subject. Oh contraire mon frere (that’s french for “on the contrary my brother”). Sure most photographers like to get the money shot, you know the one that looks more traditional of everyone looking at the camera and smiling. But 20-30 minutes is still a good amount of time to capture some incredible emotional connections between family members. So don’t let the brevity of them fool you, mini sessions will still elicit all the love and laughter you wish to remember about your family.

So there you have it, and now you know why I’m a huge believer in the mini session. Like I said before, it’s fall and nearing holiday time…don’t let this window of prime photo opportunity close on you. And if you’re ready to book just click right HERE!
