The Power of Telling Your Story

One of the most powerful tools we have, that moves generations forward, is storytelling. This is not only true for our world society but personally, in our own lives as well. We tell stories not only for ourselves but as a gift to those that come after us. We tell stories to grow and transform beyond the experience themselves. We share our stories, perchance, to make a difference in the world, to broaden our perspective and see further than normal. We share our stories to heal the wounds of an old pain or experience the joy of triumphs. Our stories serve to connect our past and present to our future. Sharing them, passing them on, honors our ancestors and can open the eyes of present and future generations to their potential.

And I see them now storytelling with their peers, honing their own skills at crafting the perfect story about that time when…

One of the things I love most about photography is that the medium itself lends perfectly to storytelling. A visual storyteller if you will. One of the things I delight in most is learning about my clients and a little of what their story is. Knowing a little about who they are helps me to get them to connect in a more natural way during our time together. “Tell me how you met?” “Why did you choose the names you did for your children?” “Who is the funniest in the family and tell me a time when you laughed so hard milk came out your nose.” “What do you want to remember most about this time in your life?” When people get lost in their stories, that’s when you see real emotion and connection and chemistry happen.

And that’s when I press…CLICK!

Do you know the importance and power of your own story? Have you written down the important ones? Do you tell the same stories over and over? When you’re ready to tell this chapter of your story I’d love to help you tell it!
