Krista…a maternity portrait session

A couple of months ago I held a maternity model call. You see, I’ve been wanting to expand my maternity services and what better way to boost the portfolio than to hold a model call. I wanted to craft an in home maternity portrait session and create different vignettes throughout my home. I wanted to have complete creative control over everything from environment to lighting to costume.

Enter Krista.

She returned my online form, we held a Zoom call, canceled one date due to a child with Covid, and finally had our time together in early December. And it was nothing short of amazing!!

There’s something uniquely beautiful about a pregnant woman. There is a glow that emanates from her proclaiming the miracle that she holds within. Krista was about 32 weeks pregnant during our session time. She’s newly married and pregnant with their first child. She’s also a special education teacher and so not only is she preparing to care for her own child, she’s also in charge of caring for so many others.

What I absolutely loved about Krista was that she was just so completely willing to play. Sometimes a photo session can feel like a race, rushing to get all the poses squeezed into a short amount of time as if we’ll all expire and fast. I prefer to take my time with my clients, walk with them, direct and guide them through the session so that they feel comfortable and free enough to allow their true selves to take over. You can’t rush that! But when it happens, when a client’s guard is dropped and they no longer feel shy or unsure in front of a camera, then something beautiful is created.

Krista said ‘yes’ to everything I wanted to try. She was game for all of it! “Sit here, like this.” Ok.

“Look over here, then down, then up.” Sure

“How about wearing this?” Yes

“Lay down over here, cradle your tummy.” Like this…

“Now what do you think about getting in a milk bath?” Let’s give it a try.

Pregnancy is such a unique time in a woman’s life and I count it all joy to be able to photograph and capture just a small moment of that journey. Krista, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with you and create something memorable.

If you’re pregnant and wanting to create a keepsake you can look back on and treasure then I’d love the chance to work with you. If you have a vision of your own, let’s talk about it and come up with something that speaks to you. I can’t wait to hear from you.

All my love,
